Department of Livestock Management
 

Introduction

Livestock is an important sector of agriculture and occupies a unique position in the National Agenda. Livestock in Cholistan region represents a prominent proportion of the total animal population of Punjab province where livestock farming is the livelihood for local peoples. The Department of Livestock Management was established in 2018 in the Faculty of Animal Production and Technology, Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CUVAS), Southern Punjab, Bahawalpur which is focused on providing the qualified and trained manpower to smoothly address the issues at semi-commercial and commercial farming level as well as initiating the problem-oriented research work to benefit the industry that can be devised through implementing effective strategies for enhancing animal productivity and minimizing the constraints in dairy and meat sector. The Department is facilitated by two undergraduate laboratories and one postgraduate laboratory. This institute is one of the fast-growing Government universities in Pakistan. Faculty members at the university are actively involved in research activities and publishing papers in conferences and peer reviewed journals.

Vision Statement

The vision of the Livestock Department is to equip the graduates with theĀ  knowledge and skills by maintaining standards of professional ethics and to become the reference point and center of excellence in animal production and management.

The mission of the Department stems from the overall mission of the University as Livestock dedicated university. We are dedicated to preparing our students to graduate with exceptional dexterity, professional competence, and self-assurance.

Objectives

  • To play an active role in exploiting the livestock resources potential of South Punjab particularly the Cholistan.
  • To bridge the gap between industry, farmers, and academia and conduct various trainings/seminars.
  • To produce graduates according to modern needs and to satisfy the needs of the expanding livestock industry.
  • To produce the skilled human resource in terms of qualified post-graduate students.
  • To ensure the best practices in Livestock Management and to address the matters of food security.
