What this department covers

The Department of Pathology at Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences is a major sub-discipline in the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences since 2018. The department provides in-depth knowledge of veterinary pathology to Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students at undergraduate level and also contributes to the undergraduate B.S. Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. The MLT program prepares skilled professionals for diagnostic laboratory services in human hospitals and healthcare institutions throughout the country.

Pathology is the study of the processes of disease and plays a major role in every aspect of health and medicine. The department's expertise covers diagnostic pathology, laboratory investigations, field diagnosis and research. Faculty members work closely with clinicians to identify diagnostic changes in tissues and cells, investigate causes of death through postmortem examinations, conduct laboratory experiments to understand diseases, and support the development of preventive and therapeutic approaches.

The department works with a wide range of animal species and studies diseases affecting animals of different kinds. Its mission includes establishing advanced diagnostic and research facilities, developing a disease reference bank with gross, microscopic and molecular resources, and establishing a state-of-the-art toxicopathological laboratory. The department also aims to strengthen disease diagnosis, prevention and control while producing graduates capable of reducing economic losses and improving the socioeconomic well-being of livestock communities.
