In the heart of Cholistan lies an academic beacon dedicated to the sustainable management and preservation of the region’s precious resources — the Department of Rangeland, Forestry and Wildlife at Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CUVAS). Rangelands in Pakistan represent the largest land cover, spreading over more than 60% of the total land area. About 97 million heads of livestock are dependent upon grazing vegetation, contributing almost 11.5% of the national GDP. Thus, this critical link between rangeland management and sustainability of livestock productivity underscores the need for comprehensive education and research. The department aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to effectively steward these vast landscapes.
